Pricing by weight is not a new idea.
For over 5,000 years, merchants anchored value to something measurable and hard to fake — grain, silver and gold. In ancient Mesopotamia, the shekel was the base unit of weight. Goods were placed on one side of a scale, silver on the other. When the scale balanced, the trade was done. States enforced the system with fines for anyone caught manipulating weights, because the unit only worked if it was fixed and trusted. Bitcoin inherits that property in digital form. One satoshi is one satoshi wherever it is spent, which makes the satoshi a precise tool for comparing the real cost of anything, anywhere in the world.
