16 Dive Destinations Ranked in Satoshis: Where Does Bitcoin Go Furthest Underwater?

Quick summary

  • Article prices 16 global dive destinations in satoshis using a standardized full-day basket

  • HM Score tracks how each destination’s Bitcoin-priced affordability changes over time

  • Utila, Koh Tao and Dahab emerge as near-identical budget leaders with strong experiences

  • Liveaboard pricing reveals Dahab and Maldives as high-value outliers versus Galápagos and Palau

Planning a dive trip in the next few months, Bitcoin offers a way to compare destinations that fiat pricing cannot. This article ranks 16 dive destinations from Utila, Honduras to the Galápagos in satoshis — the smallest unit of Bitcoin — to answer one question: where does a stack go furthest when booking a dive holiday.

How 16 Dive Destinations Were Priced in Satoshis

Every dive destination on earth carries a price tag in the local currency. Thailand quotes in baht. Egypt quotes in pounds. Croatia quotes in euros. Converting those prices into dollars gives a number but not a comparison. A dollar in Koh Tao and a dollar in the Maldives represent different amounts of purchasing power, subject to different inflation rates, in economies that move independently of each other.

This table reprices 16 dive destinations in satoshis, the smallest unit of Bitcoin, fixed in supply, identical in value whether read in Bangkok or Bergen.

Every row covers a full dive day: two guided dives with boat and tank, equipment rental, one night in budget accommodation, three local meals, and a transfer to the dive site. The basket is identical across all 16 destinations.

HM Score: One Number Worth Understanding Before the Table

Each destination carries an HM Score in the liveaboard section. The score measures whether a destination is becoming more affordable or more expensive over time when priced in Bitcoin.

  • 8.5 score: The destination is getting cheaper in Bitcoin terms every month. Waiting costs more than going

  • 8.2 score: The same trend holds, but more gradually

  • Above 8 across the board: Every destination in this audit scores above 8. Serious divers have been parking themselves in these places for years. Bitcoin pricing shows why.

Full Day Cost — 16 Destinations Ranked Cheapest to Most Expensive

Full day cost = two dives + gear rental + budget bed + three meals + transfer to site. Divide by the Bitcoin price at time of writing ($75,257). Multiply by 100,000,000. The result is satoshis — the same unit whether booking from Utila, Honduras or the Galápagos, Ecuador.

Five Things the Sat Ranking Reveals That Dollar Prices Hide

1. The Budget Diver — Utila, Koh Tao, Dahab

Three destinations sit within 25,000 satoshis of each other at the top of the table. Utila at 119,590 sats. Koh Tao at 143,508 sats. Dahab at 144,837 sats. In dollar terms they look similar. In sat terms they are almost identical and all three sit below the cost of a single espresso in Zurich multiplied by fourteen.

The difference is what each delivers beyond the price:

  • Utila: Whale sharks year-round. The cheapest full dive day on earth in this dataset. Budget beds for 13,288 sats per night

  • Koh Tao: 80-plus dive sites. The largest concentration of dive schools in Southeast Asia. Infrastructure built for the diver who wants to learn or improve

  • Dahab: World-class walls, the Blue Hole within reach, and the cheapest liveaboard on the entire table at 112,946 sats per day. The budget diver who wants to live on the water chooses Dahab.

2. The Liveaboard Inversion — When the Day Rate Lies

Dahab ranks third on day cost at 144,837 sats. Then look at the liveaboard column: 112,946 sats per day — the cheapest liveaboard on the table, cheaper than destinations that rank above it on day cost.

A diver who prices Dahab as a day trip and moves on is leaving the best value on the table. The Red Sea multi-day liveaboard is cheaper per day than a single day out of Koh Tao. The sat ruler finds this. A dollar comparison never would.

3. The Maldives Is Not What the Price Suggests

The Maldives sits last on the day's cost table at 876,995 sats. That number is almost entirely accommodation at $300 of the $660 day total is a budget guesthouse. Strip the bed out and the diving is mid-range.

Look at the liveaboard column: 302,962 sats per day — cheaper than Palau, cheaper than Raja Ampat, Indonesia, cheaper than Vanuatu, South Pacific.. The Maldives punishes the diver who sleeps on land and rewards the one who commits to the water. The liveaboard is the better value entry point to the Maldives.

4. Malapascua — The Philippines Answer Nobody Quotes

163,440 satoshis for a full dive day. Fifth on the table. Budget accommodation for 13,288 sats per night. Ferry from the mainland for 7,973 sats return.

Malapascua offers thresher shark encounters at dawn, one of the most species-specific dive experiences on earth, and one of the few places where threshers are reliably found at cleaning stations. The sat ranking puts it fifth globally. Most dive forums put it nowhere near the conversation on affordability. That gap is where the value lives when measuring in satoshis.

5. The 9.4x Gap — Galápagos vs Dahab

The Galápagos liveaboard costs 1,067,010 satoshis per day. The Dahab Red Sea liveaboard costs 112,946 satoshis per day. The ratio is 9.4x.

For the sat cost of nine Galápagos liveaboard days, the same stack funds an entire month of Red Sea diving out of Dahab with all-in, all-inclusive. Dahab has hammerhead sharks. The sat ruler does not say one is better. It says the cost of one is 9.4 times the other, and the diver decides what that is worth.

How Long Does 0.1 BTC Last — Diving Every Day

0.1 BTC = 10,000,000 satoshis at current price. The question is not how much it costs. The question is how long the stack lasts.

  • Utila: 83 full dive days. Nearly three months of diving every day

  • Koh Tao: 69 full dive days. Two and a half months

  • Dahab: 69 full dive days as a tourist. Or 88 days on the liveaboard, the cheapest stack-per-day on the table

  • Malapascua: 61 days. Two months of thresher shark mornings

  • Vis, Croatia: 36 days. One month of Adriatic wall diving

  • Malta / Gozo: 33 days. Mediterranean, HM Score 8.5 highest in the Med tier

  • Galápagos: 9 liveaboard days. The table's most expensive commitment.

HM Score reflects hard money affordability trend over time. Calculated as the percentage change in destination cost when priced in Bitcoin between 2020 and 2026, a rising score means the destination is getting cheaper in sat terms as Bitcoin appreciates. Note

🇫🇲 Truk Lagoon, Micronesia

496,964

Liveaboard only. Pacific Master $374/day verified May 2026.

Liveaboard only. Truk Lagoon is not typically dived as a day trip. The wreck sites are far offshore, so pricing is based on multi-day liveaboards rather than local boat dives.

Pacific Master prices checked in May 2026 ranged from roughly $2,695 to $3,850 per trip, plus fees. Truk Lagoon is cheaper than Galápagos on a liveaboard basis, and priced roughly in line with Vanuatu.

What Bitcoin Reveals About Dive Destination Pricing

Every destination in this table offers world-class diving. The satoshi ranking does not change that. What it changes is the honesty of the comparison.

Utila at 119,590 sats and Galápagos at 677,678 sats are both real answers to the question of where to go next. The ruler makes the cost of each answer visible in the same unit, at the same moment, without the distortion of currency drift that dollar comparisons carry silently.

The question the table does not answer: what does the ranking look like at Bitcoin $150,000. The sat counts stay identical. The dollar equivalents double. The ranking stays the same. The only thing that changes is how many options open up.

The methodology behind this table is explained in Bitcoin Weight — How the Sat Ruler Prices the World.

FAQ

What does the HM Score represent for each dive destination?

The HM Score measures whether a destination is becoming more affordable or more expensive over time when priced in Bitcoin. A score of 8.5 means the destination is getting cheaper in Bitcoin terms every month, so waiting costs more than going, and a score of 8.2 shows the same trend but more gradually. All destinations in this audit score above 8.

How is the full day cost calculated and converted into satoshis?

The full day cost includes two guided dives with boat and tank, equipment rental, one night in budget accommodation, three local meals, and a transfer to the dive site. The dollar total is divided by the Bitcoin price at the time of writing ($75,257) and then multiplied by 100,000,000 to get the cost in satoshis.

Which destination offers the cheapest full dive day in this comparison and what makes it stand out?

Utila, Honduras offers the cheapest full dive day at 119,590 satoshis. It features whale sharks year-round and has budget beds priced at 13,288 satoshis per night.

How long does 0.1 BTC last when diving every day in different destinations?

At 0.1 BTC (10,000,000 satoshis), a diver can fund 83 full dive days in Utila, 69 days in Koh Tao, 69 days in Dahab as a tourist or 88 days on the Dahab liveaboard, 61 days in Malapascua, 36 days in Vis, 33 days in Malta/Gozo, and 9 liveaboard days in the Galápagos.
